Fish and Kilkeel go together like fish and chips. The fishing fleet here is the largest in Northern Ireland, and Kilkeel is one of the busiest fishing ports in Ireland. One of the loveliest sights is the fleet leaving early on a summer’s morning or returning to harbour on an autumn evening.

However, Kilkeel has a lot more to offer than commercial fishing. The famous Mourne Mountains frame the views from the town and provide some exciting hill walking. Cranfield Beach, just along the coast, is a blue flag beach which is popular with families and watersports enthusiasts in the summer. Those interested in history can visit Greencastle and there are dolmens and megalithic monuments within easy reach of the town. The town itself is a busy market town, the capital of the Kingdom of Mourne.
